On a personal note...

The site is on a bit of a hiatus at present. Lots happening on the home front.

- My daughter was born (January 31st, 3 weeks early, she's healthy and happy) and is taking up a lot of time (as one would expect).
- I'm about to be out of a job; my position goes away Feb. 29th, so I'm dealing with the stress of trying to find a comparably paid job.

Given this I don't have much any time to update right now.

Thanks to those who have continued to visit the site, I know a lot of you are hoping for some uploads. I'll try to get some done over the next few weeks, but cannot make any promises. I'll try to return as soon as I can.

Find something dead?

Post a reply here and I'll try to get things reuploaded when I can. I know that the Sharebig links sometimes don't always work, and some files have been deleted in various places. Just let me know what looks gone and I'll take a look and post a new link when possible. I'll revise the list below as new links are posted.

Been very busy lately getting ready for the new arrival (baby) and have been looking for a new job, so I've had little time to spend here. I still have some re-ups that I am working to get to.

Slowing Down

Yes, I know, the posts have been less frequent here. This is due to two things:

1) I'm actually running out of stuff, at least the good stuff. I do still have a few things so I will continue to post for a while.
2) I've been super busy lately. My wife and I are expecting our first child in February and we've been working hard the last month to get the house ready for our new arrival. As such, most of my time has been spent cleaning, painting, etc.

Given both of these things I don't expect that I'll be able to run this blog much past the end of 2007. That's how things look as of right now, anyway.

If anyone is interested in helping out let me know. It'd be nice to have another contributor.

As always, enjoy the music, support the artist, and let me know what you think (leave a comment!).

Behind a bit...

Thanks for the various tips on the broken links, I will eventually get them fixed. Thanks for your patience as I try to enjoy my summer.

Sorry guys, that's all the Art Pepper I have. I'm getting into more where I have one or two by an artist. I'll keep what I have coming, though...

Summer's Here

Yes, it's nice outside. Therefore I've been spending less time in front of the PC and consequently my blog posts have slowed down. I will continue throughout the summer, but the frequency will be about what it is now, one or two posts a week.

If you come across any dead links please let me know and I will work to get them reloaded. Comments are always appreciated, and if you have something you'd like to share, drop me a line.

Why did I star this blog? One word: Maynard

I thought this would be appropiate for my 200th post on this blog, the topic of why I started it in the first place.

I have enjoyed the music of Maynard Ferguson for some time, since the late 80's. However most of what I knew was from the 70's, MF Horn 1 & 2 (on cassette), Primal Scream, Conquistador and the like. I had no idea at first that his career spanned the decades that it has. Once I discovered this I wanted to learn more about those recordings from the 50's and 60's, but it wasn't until the internet really came around in the mid 90's that I was able to. And with eBay I was finally, much to my joy, able to acquire a number of LPs that were out of print.

That is the reason I started this blog, to share that joy with others who may not have had the opportunitiy to ever have heard some of these MF recordings. Now, of course, it's gone well beyond just Maynard into other areas of my own personal jazz collection.

So, as a reminder, here's a list of those joys - all the Maynard material currently available here. Some of these have been reissued, and I encourage you to buy those CDs so we can hope to have more of these released in the future. And, if you have other bootlegs you would like to share, drop me a line.

More Ellis after all...

Thanks to some anonyomous donations there is more Ellis to be had. Links are posted in the comments for "All Outta Ellis" and "Live at Montreux." I will be pulling the links out of the comments into separate post here for easier viewing. Thanks to both the gents (one of whom provided 7 albums) for the links!

All Outta Ellis

All the Ellis I have is here, I have no more. I would keep it going, but, alas, I cannot!

I have been more busy lately, so the frequency of posts has slowed some, but I will keep things going, so keep coming by.

Links working, for now...

It appears that at the moment, all the ShareBig links are working again. I don't know what happened and I hope it does not happen again, but all files should be accessable again.

Host Issues

It appears that ShareBig is acting up, some of the older files are not loading and I am unable to access the pages where I can manage those files. So, there will be some broken links, it seems. What a pisser. I though I had found a good and stable file host (and free, BTW), but it appears that I should start looking again. If you find a link not working please request a re-up and I will get to it as soon as I can.

A few words from our sponsor...

Just a couple of quick notes on the site and such.

Santa was kind enough to bring me a new turntable for Christmas, so I am finally able to listen to (and burn) the handful of new albums I have accumulated in the past year, plus burn a few that I've had for a while but not gotten around to. Expect to see several of those over the next few weeks. BUT, please do keep in mind these are VINYL LPs - I do have a record and stylus cleaner, but it's not going to remove all of the imperfections. So you may find some pops here and there, just a warning. I will note in posts that it is an LP, just so everyone is aware.

I added categories to all of the posts (and to the sidebar above the archive) for those looking for a certain thing. Kind of a slick feature, I think.

ShareBig has been a little flaky lately, not sure why. They claim 99% uptime, but I am not sure they are making that. If a URL is not working, please try again later. I do check to make sure that the links are still active, so if one is truly dead, I will know. I may pony up and pay for a premium account somewhere, sometime, but for now, as long as ShareBig does not get any worse, I'll keep using it.

Lastly, if you have any comments, feel free to leave them. I enjoy reading what folks have to say (even just "Thanks!"). And spread the word, let your fellow jazz lovers know the site is here. The more hits, the more motivation I have to keep things going.

Holiday

Time for a little breather. I will be away from my computer for a few days. Good time to review the archives, 'eh?

Dead Links

I've found a few dead links from some earlier posts that I will be reparing over the next few days. If there is nothing new, that is the reason why. Those affected are:

Si Si MF
LA Jazz Workshop
Bob Curnow's LA Jazz Big Band
Footpath Cafe
Live At Peacock Lane 1957
Live at the Bluenote (2003)
Newport Suite
MF Horn 4&5 (soon to be released on CD!)

Speaking of older posts, don't forget to go through the archives.

I am slowly running out of MF stuff. I have some others, but my turntable is on the fritz, so I may have to slow down until I get it fixed. There'll be posts, they may not be MF though.
